Hanging wallcoverings

Our wide-width wallcoverings are designed to be hung with care to achieve a clean, seamless finish. We recommend using an experienced professional decorator and following the steps below.

Before you begin

Prepare the walls in the usual way and cross-line with at least 1,000 grade non-woven lining paper, using a quality ready-mixed adhesive. For pale background papers, test the lining paper first, as guidelines or marks may show through.

Please note: Arcove wallcoverings should be installed by a professional decorator. These instructions are intended as a guide; the decorator remains responsible for assessing the suitability of the wall surface, materials and installation conditions.

2. Measure & prepare the drops

Measure the required length for the first drop, allowing sufficient excess at the top and bottom for trimming. Take into account any variations in floor and ceiling levels. Cut and number all required drops before beginning to hang.

3. Apply the adhesive

Paste the wall using a quality ready-mixed adhesive, ensuring generous and even coverage across the area of the first drop. Pay particular attention to the edges, top and bottom.

4. Hang the first drop

Press the top of the first drop onto the pasted wall, keeping the remainder of the paper away from the wall initially. Align the edge carefully with your vertical guideline. Using a plastic spatula, smooth the wallcovering downwards and outwards, removing any air bubbles. Trim the excess at the top and bottom.

5. Hang subsequent drops

Apply adhesive to the next section of wall and position the second drop, overlapping the edge of the first by approximately 20mm to allow the pattern to be matched. Smooth into position as before.

6. Create the join

Using a very sharp blade and a metal edge as a guide, cut through the centre of the overlap. The cutting guide should be suitable for the wall surface; we recommend a short, flexible edge that can mould to the wall. Always ensure the blade is sharp. Carefully remove the two strips of excess paper, then fold back the edges and re-paste. Press the edges back into position to create a clean, precise join. Trim the top and bottom.

7. Finishing

Wipe away any paste from the surface of the wallcovering using a damp cloth.
